23rd June 2009 TURKEY SET TO BE THE 3RD MOST POPULAR DESTINATION FOR UK TOURISTS THIS YEAR: (Source ABTA and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Report - Feb 09).
The report shows that the number of UK visitors to Turkey was up a whopping 32% in 2008 and a further increase is predicted this year. Turkey has been placed 3rd top as the most popular holiday destination for Brits in 2009.
Yet to join the EU and so firmly outside the Eurozone, Turkey has been steadily building up a popular tourist industry for many years now and with its beautiful beaches, architecture, friendly locals and affordable food and drink its not difficult to see why.
The Turkish Ministry for Tourism logged a record number of visitors last year (no less than 26 million) and anticipates a further 10% increase on last years figures.
Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay said recently that Turkey can use the economic downturn to its advantage as the country has the benefit of its lira being at pretty much the same rate against sterling as it was a year ago.
As we’re in the midst of a Credit Crunch, we all love a bargain, so the introduction of exceptionally low flights through new budget airline Pegasus with flights to Turkey from just £65.00 is set to further fuel the ever increasing popularity of Turkey as a Top Holiday Hotspot. |
